The industrial revolution instigated a series of stimulation for the development of applications of powers and wide availability of the steam engine brought mankind to break through the restrictions of the powers of the nature, marking a milestone for the ability of mankind to produce power autonomously with a power generator. Developed up to date, the main directions of development in the science of power and machines is still focused on increasing the volume of power generation and power efficiency; these are also the key targets in the development of technologies. In this section, audiences will be introduced to the profound influence of Power and Machines to the lives of mankind. Must-see in this section: reconstruction of the long-lost Chinese mechanical invention- the wooden mechanical horse.

Background 1. Due to the implementation of the new curriculum and limited manpower, funding, and facilities in the schools, both students and teachers are in need of external help. 2. Hands-on experiments are essential in the nature and life science course because experiments bring students in-depth experience. 3. Museums have the facilities, human resources, and teaching aids to help the middle and primary schools in science education.   Objectives 1. Offer students another mode of learning. 2. Offer high quality field teaching for students and teachers of Grade 1-9 and reinforce the educational functions of the museum. 3. Students will benefit from the learning facilities, especially for children in Southern Taiwan. 4. Subjects: students and teachers of Grades 1-9. 5. Offers a comfortable stress-free environment for hands-on experiments and guides visitors to explore and experience science. 6. Large exhibits are designed and placed at the focal points of the high-roof exhibition hall.   Exhibition Areas This exhibition hall is divided into six areas based on the categories of the academic aptitude test under the themes of mountain, racetrack, and laboratory. The six areas are named The Door to Science, On the Peak, Medical Care, Crossing Time and Space, The Bottom Line, and Racing Track. The Diseases Prevention Combat Camp

Planet Aqua Blue is under attack of an unknown virus. A troop of brave warriors must be recruited to go back to the future and enter the colony of mutated viruses. The viruses must be exterminated, otherwise beautiful Planet Aqua Blue will be destroyed and disappear forever... ------We welcome you to join us in the combat against viruses. We need you!------ The Diseases Prevention Combat Camp features 30 exhibition units, including 13 challenges, which allows participants to accumulate life value units, two reality expansion units, one theater, and four movies and animation films. The participants are free to take on any of the challenges and, at the end of the camp, a certificate will be award to each of the Disease Prevention Combat Troopers. Outstanding troopers will have the chance to win the honor of Golden Warriors and crowned in an open ceremony. To ensure the best quality and education in the exhibition, the Diseases Prevention Combat Camp will be open for eight sessions and admit 120 visitors per day at the initial stage. Each session will last 50 minutes and adjustments will be implemented in the later stages. LOHAS Energy Conservation House

LOHAS Energy Conservation House

Energy conservation should be a common goal of every person in the nation and promoted through education. A Cool Energy Conservation House has been built in the Taipei Zoo, which is similar to the Lohas Energy Conservation House in the National Science and Technology Museum Kaohsiung. These structures aim to promote energy conservation through green architecture. In addition to instilling the concept of green architecture in the heart of our little citizens through school education, this exhibition will also provide knowledge of green architecture to the general public and instill the concept of energy conservation in heart of the citizens. Our everyday life is inseparable from the use of energy. In the age of severe resource shortage, we need to learn ways and build the right attitude to effectively utilize the limited resources on Earth. In view of this, the Bureau of Energy (Ministry of Economic Affairs) and the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) joined forces with the National Museum of Science & Technology to build the LOHAS Energy Conservation House. It is a structure that integrates architectural design, energy-saving exterior, high-efficiency facilities, and clean energy to achieve minimum energy consumption. It is an energy-saving, environmentally-friendly, and comfortable green structure, certified as a Golden Class Green Architecture. Through a tour to its energy-saving exterior, life energy-saving, and clean energy exhibition, we will bring visitors to see the importance of energy-saving architecture and how this energy-saving concept can be implemented in the regular houses.
