​Pavilion of Dream Transport(交通夢想廳)

Step into the Happiness Station, board various modes of transportation across land, sea, and air, fulfilling your dream of traveling around Taiwan. Finally, complete your boarding procedures and embark on the flight towards the future and your dream, heading to the next destination of human civilization. The Pavilion of Dream Transport showcases transportation history and construction projects through several transportation and touristic locations, such as Taipei Train Station, Pinlin , Taoyuan Airport, Hsinchu, Puli, Alishan, Cishan-Meinong Area, Formosa MRT Station, Kaohsiung Harbor, Fo Guang Shan, and Taitung. The display resembles a micro trip around the island of Taiwan. Many simulation driving games, involving trains, trolleys, oxcarts, motorcycles, buses, light rail trams and ships, allow participants to experience the characteristic of various modes of transportation and the importance of safety. The hall turns into a super fun yet safety-focused driving school! This exhibition hall is suitable for elementary and middle school students as well as domestic and international tourists. Please note that an iPASS card is required to activate the simulation driving games. On-site iPASS cards are available for rental, but only until 4:20pm.

Power and Machines(動力與機械)

Today, the advancement of mechanical technology remains the cornerstone of technological development. Here, we will understand and  experience the profound impact of power and mechanical technology on human life. With social changes and the evolution of industrial technology, we have entered the era of smart manufacturing. Meanwhile, we will learn about the history of industrial robots and the trends of future technology development. The exhibition is mainly divided into three exhibition areas: mechanical principles, power sources, and complex machinery. The mechanical principle exhibition includes the introduction of mechanical components and kinematic pair. The power source exhibition includes the introduction of windmills, hydraulic wheels, steam engines, engines, and smart motors. The complex machinery exhibition includes smart mobile devices, machine tools, injection molding machines, locks, industrial robots, and more. This hall translates technological inventions into story-based scenarios, and transforms abstract scientific principles and complicated electro-mechanical  structures into fun interactive experiences. Through interacting with robotic arms, visitor can directly experience the applications of intelligent robots, gaining insight in the trends of intelligent and innovative industries which are developing rapidly and will significantly impact our lives. This exhibition hall is suitable for middle school students and above, as well as all visitors interested in power machinery.

A Place for Your Exploration and Imagination We provide an alternative learning environment for students in a comfortable and stress-free setting. The exhibition hall primarily features hands-on, interactive displays designed to help visitors understand scientific concepts through engagement. We aim to guide audiences in exploring science, experiencing science, appreciating the beauty of science and enjoying the pleasure of in-depth investigation, thereby enhancing public scientific literacy. The exhibition offers you the opportunity and space to explore step by step, following the science inquiry process: POEC-2C Predict>>Observe/Operate>>Explain>>Compare>>Contest>>Create The exhibition areas are divided into seven major sections based on the topics found in academic proficiency tests, with the theme: “Science Gateway: where Exploration Begins.” The Vault Door: Application of simple machines, levers, and gear sets. Follow the instructions on the door to turn in the direction and numerical order to the set point to open. Roller Coaster Balls: Observe the relationship between kinetic and potential energy in the balls’ free-falling motion. Catapult Track: Uses a basketball game to observe and predict the direction and landing point of the catapulted ball. Electric Maze: Navigate through the maze designed with the basic components of an electrical circuit to train stability of hands. Hand Battery: Explores the principles of a zinc-copper battery - can the hand generate electricity?  Medical Online-The Art of Invisibility: An optical illusion using repeating patterns and mirror reflections - the lower body disappears.” The exhibition is suitable for all ages, especially good for students and teachers of grades 1 to 9. The exhibition hall hosts scientific presentations during winter and summer vacations. There are activities during the school year from time to time. Each presentation provides opportunities for visitors to interact, allowing all participants to challenge the record keeper.

Explore Career and Self through the Door

Welcome to Explore Career and Self Through the Door! This exhibition hall is a miniature city designed specifically for career exploration. Starting from familiar everyday settings, such as home, school, convenience stores, streets, and ports, and even extending to concerts and the future, these immersive scenes guide visitors to understand the diverse professions. The exhibition hall integrates the six major categories of vocational high school, plus the health and nursing cluster of the five-year junior college, linking together content from more than 50 departments and 64 occupations, allowing visitors to travel between scenes, just like opening a door and stepping into the real world of various industries. This exhibition hall offers an "Exploration Pass," which can be registered at the entrance and used to enter six exploration doors. Upon completion, you can redeem limited-edition flash cards (11 types available) at the exhibition hall information desk. Additionally, by joining the official Line account, you can enter keywords during your visit to collect special digital cards (6 types available). This exhibition hall is suitable for junior high school students (including parents and teachers) and the general public to explore career development

The Space Exploration Hall offers an experiential and investigative journey into advanced space science and technology in modern days. It focuses on sparking interest and enhancing learning through immersive experiences. The engaging surrounding recreates the dream of colonization on Mars and the reality of space travel in the future. It also highlights Taiwan’s evolving role and position in the global space technology race. The exhibition uses space travel as its overarching narrative, covering themes like “Mars Colonization,””Space Living,””Advanced Space Technology,””Principles of Flight Evolution,” and “Taiwan’s Space Development.” It features a large-format projection recreating the surface on the Mars, a spherical immersive projection theater highlighting the display, and a virtuality-and-reality blending light sculpture showcasing flight evolution. AR interactive experience connect visitors to cutting-edge international space exploration, while a 4D dynamic space flight theater inspires dreams of space exploration. Electrochromic film technology is integrated in multimedia to present Taiwan’s space technology research and development. We cordially invite you and your family to visit and experience the sixth floor of the National Science and Technology Museum. The exhibition is suitable for the general public and families. The exhibition hall also features paid interactive activities: “Roaming on the Moon” and “4D Space Flight Experience,” which you are welcome to experience for a fee.

Stories of Recovery and Reconstruction after Morakot(莫拉克風災紀念廳)

In 2009, Typhoon Morakot devastated southern and eastern Taiwan, leaving many people homeless and bereaved. In the aftermath, various sectors joined hands to rebuild.  The “Stories of Recovery and Reconstruction after Morakot” exhibition was then established in the museum to record the impact of the disaster, learn from its lessons, and hopefully inspire the wisdom and resilience for disaster prevention in the future. As you step into the exhibition hall, through the immersive theater, AR augmented surrounding, light-sculpting projection, and interactive body sensing, we will take you back to the scene of Typhoon Morakot, where you can experience the unwavering stories of rescue and reconstruction.  The exhibition is divided into three themes: Memories of Morakot: A retrospective of the touching journey of the occurrence, disaster relief, and homeland reconstruction. Coexisting with Disaster: Showcasing Taiwan’s efforts in addressing climate challenges through cutting-edge technology and innovative strategies. Hope and Rebirth: Witnessing the resilient strength of post-disaster recovery through videos and display of reconstructed tribal villages The exhibition not only conveys inspiration and hope in the face of disaster but also guides visitors to contemplate how to work together to build resilient homes and prepare for future challenges. It is a moving experience combined with learning that invites you to explore and reflect. This exhibition is suitable for all visitors interested in environmental education issues. Visiting groups are welcome to book guided tours; individual visitors can scan the QR code in the exhibition hall to listen to audio guides in Chinese or English. In addition, the “Future Disaster Prevention” learning sheets are available on site. All are welcome to explore and learn using the learning sheets.

“Fantasy” is a vessel-themed exhibition that engages visitors with interactive experiences to explore different cultures and ecologies. It aims to spark interest in science and cultivate curiosity and appreciation for diverse cultures. This journey combines knowledge with fun games. Through immersive design and interactive games, visitors will experience the joy of learning and kindle a passion for exploring cultures and ecologies: “Snowy Christmas Island”: Visitors can learn about the principle of parabolic motion and interesting health science while throwing snowballs. “Oriental Island”: Visitors can virtually try on exotic traditional costumes and learn about food preservation techniques. “Tropical Island”: Visitors can explore Madagascar’s endemic species and learn about the importance of marine conservation and the fun of fishing through interactive experiences. “Kids’ Fest of Five Asian Countries”: Visitors can play games while learning  about the cultural characteristics, traditions, and stories of five Southeast Asian countries. Let’s embark on the ship of “Fantasy” and explore Snowy Christmas Island, Oriental Island, Tropical Island and the Kids’ Fest of Five Asian Countries with the old captain! This exhibition hall is suitable for children aged 5 to 12 and their families to visit together. The exhibition is self-guided and has checkpoints for photos, making it suitable for family outings.

In 2004, the NSTM and Chunghwa Telecom collaborated on the restoration of telecommunications artifacts. To preserve Taiwan’s telecommunication cultural heritage, they jointly launched the “Telecom@ Taiwan” exhibition hall in 2011. The hall showcases over 900 telecommunications artifacts, presents stories through multimedia audiovisuals, and incorporates interactive games to help visitors understand the science and significance of telecommunications technology. This hall presents the nearly 150-year history of telecommunications in Taiwan and the development of telecommunications technology. It features over 900 valuable Taiwanese telecommunications artifacts, numerous exciting audiovisual and interactive games, and introductions to the latest telecommunications services. It also encourages visitors to reflect on the future of telecommunications technology. The entire hall is divided into 14 zones, each introducing significant telecommunication historical developments and technologies along a timeline. Visitors can explore the development of telecommunications in Taiwan from two different perspectives, the development of the industry’s history or the progression of telecommunication technology, both ending with the introduction of telecommunication today. This hall offers a comprehensive journey through the past and present of Taiwan’s information and communications history, inviting you to explore and learn together! The exhibition hall is suitable for all visitors  interested in the history and the technical development of information and communications. The exhibition hall features an AR mobile guide called ”5G Mystery: Decoding the Telecom Hall,” which uses new technology to provide lively interpretations of old artifacts. This allows visitors to learn relevant knowledge in an AR virtual-reality integrated environment, experience the features of 5G firsthand and spark an interest in exploring information and communications science.

Magic Land(奇幻國)

“Magic Land” is a time-traveling, sound and light fantasy world that blends the ancient with the futuristic. The exhibition hall features a simulated medieval European castle, essentially a display of science in the theme of sound and light . Through immersive settings and diverse interactive displays, it allows young visitors to experience the magic and beauty of science. The exhibition hall is composed of three main areas, each with a unique guardian spirit to guide children through their scientific explorations: The Magical Sound Forest: Guarded by the guardian spirit, Big-eared Elf, this area showcased the science of sound. Children can see, hear, and even touch sound, engaging in various sound-related explorations and experiments. The Phantom Village: Overseen by the guardian, the Big-Eyed Monster, this area displays the science of images. Using mirrors and multimedia imaging technology, children can experience the dazzle of light reflection and refraction and enjoy playing hide-and-seek in the Phantom Village. The Castle of Light: This is the home of the guardian sprit, Baby Liang-liang, showcasing the science of light. Through various scientific principles and mysteries of light, fun challenges and puzzles are designed to test the wisdom and courage of children entering the castle. This exhibition hall is suitable for children aged 6 to 12, parents with their children, and visitors of all ages interested in the science of sound and light. Feel free to visit and don’t miss the “Party of Light and Shadow”, showing on the hour at the “Castle of Light,” where you can experience the magical charm of light and shadow interplay!

The “Smart Manufacturing Experience Zone” is located on different floors across the museum, covering exhibition halls such as  “Power and Machines” and  “ The Science of Cooking” on 2F, “Adventures in Health Land” and “Clothing and Textile Technology Exploration Hall” on 4F, and “The Story of Taiwan Agriculture” on B3F. The zone adheres to the concept of edutainment, introducing the development history and technical applications of “smart manufacturing “ in a comprehensive yet accessible manner. The exhibition content covers five major themes, including; Industrial Robots and Smart Vehicles: Combining robotic arms and smart vehicles. Smart cooking: Helping busy modern people prepare a delicious meal more easily. Smart Healthcare: Integrating long-term care and telemedicine. Smart Wearables: Showcasing innovations in wearable technology Smart Agriculture: Applied to pig farming, poultry, and dairy industries. This zone is suitable for all visitors interested in smart technology, providing an immersive interactive experience that allows you to personally feel how smart manufacturing is changing life and industry.
